It is designed to provide reliable and long-term electrical connections in automotive, commercial, industrial, and military applications by eliminating exposed wiring and terminals that can become corroded.The M85049/1917W03 connector features a backshell adapter and insulation sleeve paired with a series of cable clamps. This pairing creates a secure electrical connection while providing additional gasket-less strain relief and environmental protection.The M85049/1917W03 backshell connector consists of two cables that are twisted together inside an aluminum adapter, and then a rubber or neoprene grommet is used to clamp the two cables together. The cable clamps have nylon threads that are self-tapping and self-locking to provide a tight seal. Once the cables have been secured, the entire backshell is inserted in an insulation sleeve for additional protection and strain relief.The threads on the M85049/1917W03 backshell thread onto a corresponding fitting on the connector housing. Once threaded, the cable clamps are tightened to compression limit up to a torque of 28 in-lbs, allowing for firm termination. The backshell also features a latch that allows for quick disconnection from the mating connector and provides an audible ‘clicking’ sound when locked.The M85049/1917W03 connector is rated for up to 150°C and supports operating temperatures ranging from -55°C to +150°C.
