Working Principle
The MAX619CPA+ is a three terminal voltage regulator. It consists of two switch mode buck regulators on chip, one providing the mains AC to the output and the other providing the battery backup to the output. The mains and battery inputs each have an associated sense pin to monitor the voltage. Also included on chip are a power switch, a low dropout linear regulator, an integrated power-on reset circuit, POR Delay control and a shutdown input. The device operates in buck topology with a fixed 5V output. The USB adapter AC input is within a 0.73V to 7V range, while the battery input is 1V to 6V, depending upon the user choice of battery. The MAX619CPA+ can supply up to 2A of output with an optimal efficiency of up to 88%, and is capable of operating at up to 2 MHz.
The MAX619CPA+ is designed to perform the buck switching between two input sources with several levels of safety measures. It has onboard soft-start, under-voltage lockout, thermal foldback, an internal power-on reset and a logic controlled shutdown. The integrated power-on reset circuit ensures that the device will be in the standby mode whenever the power is off, and will resume normal operation only when the power is applied at the correct level. The input and output voltage monitoring protects the device and allows automatic transitioning between the battery and AC inputs.
The MAX619CPA+ provides excellent performance in high frequency and high current applications.
