Working Principle

The MAX634CSA DC–DC switching regulator consists of a fixed 46kHz oscillator, a high-side P-channel MOSFET switch, a current sense amplifier, a voltage reference, an error amplifier, and a voltage feedback divider, as shown in the figure below.

The oscillator controls the switching of the high-side switch and the current sense amplifier provides current limiting for the output power stage and determines the inductor current charging and discharging cycle. When the switching cycle begins, the inductor current is charged by the input voltage, VIN, at the rate determined by the oscillator. When the sense voltage reaches the reference voltage level, switching ceases and the inductor current is discharged into the output capacitor through the low-side switch.
