MAX6497ATA+T is a new type of mixed-technology transverse voltage suppressor (TVS), combining silicon avalanche diode (SAD) and a metal-oxide varistor (MOV), to provide a high-performance protection. The MAX6497ATA+T is designed to protect a wide variety of consumer and industrial electronic applications against transient overvoltages, such as electrostatic discharges (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), and lightning induced surges.This new mixed technology provides a simple and cost effective solution in many cases. Compared to a single TVS Silicon Avalanche Diode (SAD), the MOV layer provides an additional continuous clamping, allowing a very fast response time as well as higher protection levels than SAD only devices. This makes the device an ideal choice for highly sensitive I/O applications, such as digital signal lines, mobile phone, and PC interfaces.Appliction Field

The MAX6497ATA+T provides excellent protection through its mixed-technology construction, consisting of a Silicon Avalanche Diode (SAD) and a Metal-Oxide Varistor (MOV). This construction provides both high speed clipping and continuous clamping of transients, which makes it an ideal choice for a variety of consumer and industrial applications. When a transient surge is applied to the device, the SAD quickly responds and begins to absorb the energy, while the MOV provides continuous clamping to protect the circuitry. The SAD quickly dissipates the energy and returns the protection devices to their nominal state once the transient surge ends.
