MAX665CWE+T Working Principle
The MAX665CWE+T is designed to combine a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator with a high effeciency stepdown DC-DC switching regulator to help reduce board space and cost. The linear regulator operates with a low quiescent current of 4µA and is capable of providing an output current of up to 200mA. The DC-DC switching regulator is capable of providing an output current of up to 2A and has a high switching frequency of 650kHz.
The regulator consists of two sections, the high-side driver and the low-side driver. The high-side driver is a P-Channel MOSFET that is designed to reduce the input voltage and the low-side driver is an N-Channel MOSFET that is designed to increase the input voltage. When the regulator is not being used, the high-side & low-side MOSFETS are switched off. The regulator will then switch on the high-side & low-side MOSFETS as needed to match the desired input and output voltages.
