Working Principle

During this phase, the controller drives a high-side MOSFET from the IN pin to the output pin OUT. During this phase, the controller drives a low-side MOSFET from the OUT pin to the GND pin in order to discharge the stored energy in the inductor to the output capacitor. In this way, energy is transferred from the input to the output, thus regulating the output voltage according to the input voltage.
