Evaluation boards are designed for various applications. Among these, DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS (switched-mode power supplies) play an important role in the field of power management. The MAX8625AEVKIT+ is a low-cost evaluation board developed by Maxim Integrated for this purpose. The board is specifically designed for engineers to evaluate the features and performance of the MAX8625AE buck regulator.

The MAX8625AEVKIT+ board provides a complete power management design solution. It is powered by a 5V source and controls a single output voltage in the range of 0.7V to 5V. The board has an inkjet-printed silkscreen and copper plane which assist designers to create a reliable and efficient power management solution. In addition, the board includes many protection features such as UVLO (under-voltage lockout) and OTP (over-temperature protection) to ensure safety. With all these features, the board can be used as an excellent reference platform for system designs using the MAX8625A buck regulator.

The MAX8625A buck regulator design uses a constant frequency switching scheme, with frequency foldback and skipped-cycle mode to provide a high conversion efficiency and excellent output voltage accuracy across the input voltage range. The board contains an onboard controller that is capable of providing up to 3A of output current. The controller is also equipped with advanced protection features such as over-current protection (OCP) and current-mode PWM control (CCM) to ensure protection for the power supply.

The MAX8625A EVKIT+ board is fully featured, and includes a variety of on-board components such as a MAX8625A buck regulator, a MAX8626A line driver, and a MAX8615A low battery indicator (LBI). The MAX8625A buck regulator is the core of the system, and is responsible for converting the incoming voltage to the desired output voltage. The MAX8626A line driver is used to isolate the buck regulator from the power source, while the MAX8615A LBI ensures proper output voltage tracking. This prevents undesired glitches and spikes in the output voltage. The EVKIT+ also features a graphical user interface (GUI) which allows users to easily adjust the output voltage and control the buck regulator.

In addition to the EVKIT+, the MAX8625A buck regulator is also available in low-cost, small form-factor packages which allow designers to easily integrate the device into their designs. The device is designed for ±2% output voltage accuracy across input and load conditions, and offers a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 16V making it ideal for a variety of applications.
