The MAX8640YEXT13+ is a high-performance, ultra-low-voltage, low-quiescent-current, nano-Power DC-DC step-down switching regulator. It is an ideal device for applications such as noise-sensitive systems, general-purpose battery-powered applications, Automotive infotainment, automotive telecommunication, and micro-processor-based system applications.
The MAX8640YEXT13+ DC-DC switching regulator takes a supply voltage range of 0.9 V to 5.5 V and can be configured to output regulated voltages as low as 0.6 V. The MAX8640YEXT13+ features fast transient response and excellent load regulation. It also features short-circuit and over-temperature protection to ensure that its output voltage remains within spec during fault and overload conditions.
The MAX8640YEXT13+\'s starting-up circuit eliminates external components, reducing the solution size and cost. Its integrated 1.2 MHz switching frequency maintains high step-down conversion efficiency while running from smaller inductors. The device supports both constant frequency, pulse-width modulation (PWM) and pulse-skipping mode (PSM) for increased efficiency across the full load range.
The MAX8640YEXT13+ also features integrated anti-phase/separate-phase behavior. In anti-phase mode, the output voltage ripple is minimal, reducing output noise and eliminating the need for an LC filter on the output. In separate-phase mode, the MAX8640YEXT13+ can provide highly regulated output voltages with low ripple, allowing higher switching frequencies, lower solution size, and reduced overall power consumption.
The MAX8640YEXT13+ is able to deliver up to 3 A output current and provides programmable output voltage as well as a two-level current-limit protection feature. It also supports both an internal soft-start and an external soft-start, allowing the user to optimize their system based on their application needs.
The working principle of the MAX8640YEXT13+ is based on the principle of step up and step down DC-DC switching regulating. The device provides high efficiency conversion of the input voltage to produce a regulated output voltage. The input voltage is converted to an intermediate unregulated voltage with the help of a DC-DC buck converter, and then this intermediate voltage is further regulated with an output voltage regulation loop. This regulation loop controls the duty cycle of the switch by comparing the output voltage to the desired programmed output voltage.
The MAX8640YEXT13+ is an ideal device for automotive infotainment, automotive telecommunication, mobile phones and computational systems.
