The MAX8720ETX+ is a +1.8V to +5.5V low-dropout linear regulator with an I2C-compatible digital-controlled interface capable of both step-down voltage and a programmable series of adjustable output voltage levels. MAX8720ETX+ Working Principle

Selection of the appropriate output voltage is made maximally simple, as the I2C slave address and other operating parameters are specified via the MAX8720ETX+’s ancillary pins before the regulator is powered up.
The MAX8720ETX+ regulator features an adjustable current limit, which may be set through the I2C interface. When the load current exceeds the current limit, the device will automatically shut down and enter a current-limited state. The device may be commanded back into normal operation by issuing a "shutdown" command via the I2C interface.
