The MAX8723EVKIT from Maxim Integrated is an evaluation board that offers a highly versatile feature set to evaluate buck, boost, flyback, and forward DC/DC and AC/DC converters. This evaluation board has been well-designed to provide a wide range of functionalities for engineers working on different projects.

The MAX8723EVKIT uses a MAX8723A-MAX8723Z IC, a family of automotive-grade, monolithic high efficiency converters. This IC has an integrated power device that enables to switches between buck, boost, flyback, and forward converter operating modes with a simple switch on the board. This MAX8723A-MAX8723Z IC offers an efficient current mode control for improved transient response. The control loop consists of a rectified input voltage detection, an internal voltage reference, a power-on reset, a soft-start, a slope compensator, an error amplifier, and a low power shutdown.

The MAX8723EVKIT evaluation board is outfitted with a n-Channel Power MOSFET indicated as the high-side switch and a p-Channel indicated as the low-side switch. Additionally, the board also features test points and a configurable current sense resistor for measuring the inductor current and different external converter connections for monitoring the output voltage and the voltage across the MOSFET.

The board is designed to be compatible with a wide range of power supplies, including outlets with an AC line input, including outlets with an Auto adapter input, and outlets with a 12V battery input. When operating with an AC line input, the board is factory-set to operate in buck mode (STEPBUK = 1). The board can also operate in either boost or flyback modes by setting STEPBK = 0.
