The MAX8751EVKIT allows for evaluation and experimentation with a powerful low-cost AC-DC switching regulator controller. This evaluation and demonstration board comes with adjustable output voltage from 0.5 V to 4.5 V, maximum current of 2 A, efficiency of up to 99% with a low 45 mV dropout, and an onboard MAX3020 compliant power MOSFET. The MAX8751EVKIT is intended to be used in low power AC-DC battery charging, or low noise and high efficiency switch mode power supplies for desktop computers, servers, consumer electronics, and networking and automotive applications. The MAX8751EVKIT evaluation and demonstration board comes with an AC to DC bridge rectifier, an onboard boost converter, and an internal resistor for current measurement. The AC mains voltage is connected to the board through the bridge rectifier and is then regulated through the onboard boost converter to create a steady-state DC voltage at the output. This output voltage can be adjusted from 0.5 to 4.5 V by adjusting two MSP430 pins. A separate MAX3020 power MOSFET is provided to control the output voltage and current.

The MAX8751EVKIT integrates Maxim’s proprietary Low Drop Out (LDO) Voltage Regulation (LDR) technology with the MAX8751. This technology, along with efficient operation, is optimized to provide low noise and high efficiency in applications. Additionally, the MAX8751EVKIT features Pre-Bias Start-Up, which provides for stable system operation until the current level reaches its specified steady-state level. The MAX8751EVKIT also features an autonomous shutdown mode and an active circuit layout which enables fast transient response.
