MAX8758ETJ is an advanced step-down switching regulator designed for low-voltage output applications. It is a two-phase synchronous dc-dc converter which uses external MOSFETs to drive a current regulator architecture with a wide input voltage range. It can accept input voltages from 4.5V to 17V and is capable of generating output currents of up to 3A. This voltage regulator is suitable for a wide range of workloads, such as powering FPGA, ASIC, SoC and system gate arrays, as well as providing up to 30A of output current when used as an MPPT Buck converter in an automotive or industrial environment.
This voltage regulator features adaptive on-time switching, voltage-mode control and synchronization to a system’s clock. It has an adjustable soft-start ramp rate, frequency hopping and overcurrent protection, with a fast loop bandwidth to ensure dynamic performance. The MAX8758ETJ can operate in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with low ripple current switching and enabled by a user-selectable Maximum Duty Cycle (MDC) value.
The MAX8758ETJ voltage regulator also features a thermally-tuned current control loop for improved transient response that continuously monitors the die temperature and adjusts the switching duty cycle accordingly. This helps mitigate the thermal effects of the output transistor in critical applications by reducing the current feedback for best transient response when the temperature offset is selected.
The MAX8758ETJ is suitable for applications that require dynamic voltage scaling and load and line regulation. It offers a wide input voltage range and high output current, which makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, including medical equipment, industrial automation, alternative energy, and telecommunications.
In addition to voltage and current regulation, the MAX8758ETJ features many features to enhance overall system performance. Voltage shedding is included to reduce stress on the converter when the load suddenly drops and a ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) feature is included to minimize switching losses at lighter loads. The wide input voltage range and two-phase architecture also help reduce input ripple and EMI. The MAX8758ETJ offers an adjustable current limit with selectable overcurrent protection, as well as overvoltage, thermal shutdown and soft-start protection.
For easy integration, the MAX8758ETJ voltage regulator comes in a small, 7 mm x 7 mm, 48-pin QFN package, making it ideal for space-constrained designs.
