The MAX893LESA+ is a power distribution switch and load driver IC that provides load switching, overcurrent protection and power distribution management in power management IC (PMIC) applications. It is particularly well-suited for applications that require high power efficiency, such as automotive, automotive audio, medical, and industrial control systems. The MAX893LESA+ offers two configurable functions — a load switch and a load driver — in one device. Whether the application is a load switch or a load driver, the MAX893LESA+ provides robust performance, higher efficiency, and improved system performance.

The MAX893LESA+ is designed to provide protection against overcurrent conditions and shorts, as well as ESD protection for power paths between the power supply input and the system’s output. The MAX893LESA+ features an integrated thermal protection circuit to reduce power dissipation across the load, and a current limit circuit to prevent overload conditions. The MAX893LESA+ can be configured to provide either a load switch or a load driver. The load switch configuration enables the user to switch between an active high (H) and idle low (L) state, while the load driver configuration provides the user with a high-side driver. Both the load switch and load driver configurations are provided with overcurrent protection and ESD protection.

The MAX893LESA+ utilizes two low-side switches connected in series with a high-side switch to provide load switching, current limit protection and power distribution management. The device consists of two PMOS output drivers, two N-channel MOSFET load switches and an adjustable current limit circuit. The two PMOS drivers are driven by an external control signal and directed at the two low-side switches. On the other side of the switches, the two N-channel MOSFET switches are connected in series with the high-side switch. A current limit circuit is provided between the two switches for protection against overcurrent conditions, and an ESD circuit is provided for protection against electrostatic discharge.

The MAX893LESA+ also features programmable slew rates for both the high-side and low-side switches, allowing the user to choose the desired rate. Additionally, the device provides adjustable precharge times, allowing the user to tailor the timing of the precharge process for their application. The precharge time is adjustable through the use of an external resistor.

The MAX893LESA+ is provided in a space-saving 8-pin SOIC package, making it suitable for space-constrained applications. The device is available in extended temperature ranges of -40°C to 85°C and -40°C to 125°C. It is rated for operating voltages of 4.5 V to 13 V and peak currents of up to 5 A, providing sufficient current and voltage ratings for most power management applications.
