MAX9121EUE+ Interface - Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers
The MAX9121EUE+ is an integrated high-speed transceiver interface that combines both a transceiver, receiver and driver on a single IC. The device utilizes a low-power, single-ended input/output (I/O) architecture with fast switching rates, making it an ideal solution for high-speed applications such as communications and data conversion.
Application Field
The MAX9121EUE+ is suitable for a wide variety of applications. Many high-speed communication environment applications, such as GbE, Fibre Channel (FC), InfiniBand, SONET/SDH, and iSCSI, utilize the MAX9121EUE+. It is also suitable for automotive, video, networking, storage and industrial applications. Additionally, the device is well-suited for any system requiring high channel density and high switching speed.
Working Principle
The MAX9121EUE+ operates according to a differential I/O protocol. The device features unique features like advanced channel post filtering to remove any excess edge noise, as well as a fast multi-level equalization function to reduce ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) that can cause signal attenuation.
The MAX9121EUE+ also incorporates a low-power architecture with active power management. The device has integrated 5-bit programmable current limiting to reduce power consumption during low-speed switching times, and an auto-power down (APD) mode in which the device automatically powers down in response to a slow activity level and resumes operation in response to a more active signal.
The device also features an integrated Clock/Data Recovery (CDR) and Frame Alignment (FA) function that enables it to automatically detect and synchronize to incoming data streams for characteristics such as data rate, synchronization pulse, frame location and latency. The device can be programmed for either a low-power loopback data recovery mode or a high-speed mode to facilitate compliant clock/data extraction. Additionally, the device offers optional dedicated I/O PLLs (Phase Locked Loop) to reduce jitter.
The MAX9121EUE+ is configured with integrated differential I/O buffers (LVPECL, CML, LVDS, and SSTL) for a range of output signal levels. The receiver sensitivity on the MAX9121EUE+ is adjustable and can be adjusted within a 4 dB range for a range of receiver performance. The device is also protected from any power surges or electrostatic discharge (ESD) and can detect defective or failed differential channels. Additionally, the device supports integrated low-, medium-, and high-speed clock buffer dividers to drive a number of different asynchronous divide ratios.
