MAX9234EUM+TD serializer and deserializer (SERDES) devices combine digital and analog functions for high-speed digital video designs. The device is suited for applications requiring wide-bandwidth digital video transmission over balanced line, coax, and/or fiber media. MAX9234EUM+TD SERDES is often used to totalize digital media links, allowing successful transmission of video and other data in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
MAX9234EUM+TD SERDES supports six different video formats: SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 272M, SMPTE 344M, SMPTE 424M, and ITU-R BT.656/659. It allows video data rate range of 270 Mbps to 2.97 Gbps over coax and/or fiber media. It allows up to 9 HDMI compliant video streams to be multiplexed over single cable. That makes it ideal for video distribution centralization and simplifying the cabling for digital video transmission.
The device provides low power consumption, superior electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance, and low EMI susceptibility. In terms of power consumption, the device has five low power modes to minimize overall power consumption. It also features an adjustable jitter attenuation filter to eliminate cable-induced jitter from an incoming signal.
The operating principle of the MAX9234EUM+TD SERDES is quite simple. The device multiplexes and de-multiplexes incoming digital video data streams between the peripheral devices. At the same time, it performs signal conditioning, such as adjusting signal levels, channel creep control, channel-to-channel skew control, and cable driving capability.
The SERDES can convert differential input signals into single ended outputs and vice versa. It also provides automatic equalization to reinforce the signal if the transmission line is longer than 50m. The device also provides an integrated clock compensation feature that locks to the incoming clock and then adjusts the output clock with the same frequency.
