MAX9249GCM/V+ is a high-speed rate serializer and deserializer (SERDES) with embedded clock and data recovery (CDR) of the MAX family that offer high speed serial data transmission. They can transform low-speed parallel data into a high-speed serial stream, as well as convert a special serial stream back into parallel data. The MAX9249GCM/V+ SERDES is primarily used for serial data communication over long distances. The TX output data aggregation and the support of incoming data streams enable multiple low speed serialization channels and low jitter clock and data recovery. The TX data is scrambled and descrambled on both ends in order to avoid data and clock incompatibility issue on long distance links.The MAX9249GCM/V+ is housed in a 10mm x 10mm, 54-pin QFN package as a serializer and 63-pin QFN package as a deserializer.

Working Principle

The MAX9249GCM/V+ is a low power, low jitter SERDES. The device includes both transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) functions. The TX serializes parallel input data and transmit it out at a high speed serial rate. The RX takes the high speed serial data and recover it back to parallel data. All data and clock related features are integrated in the device.At the transmitter side, the device first inputs the low speed parallel data and then sample it. The sampled data is then streamed into a data shift register at the rising edge of the transmit clock. The data is then shifted out of the shift register according to the corresponding baud rate. The clock in the device can be provided by an external reference clock or through the MaxLink Rate Adaptable Clock Recovery (RACR) feature.At the receiver side, the device samples the high speed serial input data and streams into a data shift register. The serial data out from the shift register is them recouped at the falling edge of the frame clock. The data is then descrambled and clocked out on the parallel data bus. The clock is recovered from the incoming serial stream using the MaxLink Rate Adaptive Clock Recovery (RACR) feature, or from the transmit or external clock when RACR is not enabled.
