The MAX9301GGN/VY+TGGB serializer and deserializer use PAM4 signaling and have a programmable data rate of up to 25 Gbps. It also offers good noise immunity for reliable communication. The device requires a single 1.2V supply and can operate from -40°C to +125°C temperatures. The device also features flexible IO, including PCS/PMA and transmitter/receiver block modes.

The device contains four RxPaths for the deserialization of four different PAM4 lanes. Each lane contains an equalization stage, de-emphasis stage, deskewing and descrambling, and data receiver unit. The AC-coupled deserializer channel features a built-in AC-coupling, loss of signal (LOS) detector, programmable de-emphasis, as well as control logic to power down/power up each receiver when needed.

For serializing, the MAX9301GGN/VY+TGGB contains one TxPath with a built-in pass-by, constant output current driver, dual voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), and variable-gain continuous-time linear equalizer (CTLE). This transmitter supports a variety of data rates, including 25 Gbps, and is enabled with +7dB of output-side de-emphasis up to 10 Gbps data rate. The CTLE is designed to provide enough gain and bandwidth to suppress the effect of ISI in a 16-bit system. It also provides support for SCK/SYNC as well as LOS.
