The MAX9705DETB+T is a linear amplifier in the audio field. It is a low-noise, power efficient two-channel amplifier mainly used for headphone purposes and a single-ended stereo line driver. This amplifier consists of a simplified structure featured with two operating modes - single-ended and differential. When operated as single-ended, the MAX9705DETB+T requires just one amplifier to produce the output signal. It is suitable for headphone applications because it produces an amplified replica of an input signal with consistent gain and output level. The differential mode requires two amplifiers to produce exceptionally low distortion levels and a higher output power, usually for driving speakers. The differential mode also provides a better control of the overall gain so it is more frequently used for line drivers.

The MAX9705DETB+T also incorporates several advanced features to help its efficiency. The thermal fold back feature protects the device by reducing its drain current when the temperature rises above a certain limit. In-rush current control ensures that the instantaneous surge of current drawn upon startup is limited and minimized to help maintain the integrity of the circuit. Additionally, the soft-clip protection actively reduces distortion when the output clips while the low output-voltage noise floor and smooth low-frequency response help achieve maximum performance.

The amplifier operates in two parts- an N-channel power field effect transistor (FET) and a charge pump. The FET amplifier has a P channel mirror to take the load off the amplifier thus eliminating power supply ‘pumping’ and minimising unwanted output noise. This also improves voltage drive and delivers high-output current. The charge pump is a voltage source designed to drive each amplifier amplifier’s power supply pins and uses a storage capacitor to generate higher voltages than the power supply.

The MAX9705DETB+T is a low-noise, power efficient two-channel amplifier suitable for both headphone and line-driving applications.
