The MC100EP445FAG is a high-speed transceiver from ON Semiconductor with some specific features; this device is suitable for different purposes where an exact serial data signal is required in order to minimize the ‘glitches’’ or signal distortion caused by external environment such as noise, electromagnetic interference (EMI) or the like.

The second component of the device is the PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) logic. This logic, as the name implies, is used to lock or characterize the signal’s phase or frequency. This logic assists in detecting and controlling the signal’s amplitude and adjusts the signal’s frequency automatically and to a great degree of accuracy.
The third component is the VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator). This component helps to achieve the desired frequency range and it is also used to assist with adjusting the signal strength. The VCO can be adjusted from 50MHz-2.5GHz, subject to its implementation.
The fourth component is the Calibration logic. This component is used to achieve the calibration of the signal. This process occurs whenever the signal is disturbed; the component measures the signal’s frequency, amplitude, and phase and adjusts their parameters accordingly.
To further enhance the device’s functionality, several options are available, such as the ability to disable FIFO logic, PLL Sleep logic and Pre-emphasis logic. The FIFO logic helps in shaping and minimizing the data jitter; this logic also reduces the amount of penalty time on the output stage. The PLL Sleep logic, on the other hand, helps prevent the PLL from entering a power-saving mode every time the input is determined to be idle. Finally, the Pre-emphasis logic offers an adjustable output overshoot to further improve jitter and data rate performance.
