Mica and PTFE capacitors are usually constructed from a dielectric layer of mica and a thin metalized layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The dielectric layer\'s construction is crucial in achieving high capacitance and longevity.

The MC12FD820J-TF is an 120pF mica and PTFE capacitor used as a high-reliability circuit component. At a height of only 2.5mm, it is ideal for miniature and high density circuits. In addition, it can withstand high full rated voltage up to 250VAC for 1min, making it a perfect choice for high stability in critical RF & microwave circuits.

The construction of the MC12FD820J-TF consists of a silver-plated mica sheet which provides excellent dielectric characteristics combined with non-inductive winding and insulated silver-plated leads. An additional, PTFE metalized layer is then added providing superior electrical characteristics, especially in high frequency applications, such as automotive electronics and aerospace applications.

The working principle of the MC12FD820J-TF is fairly simple. As a non-polarized capacitor, the two terminals are electrically parallel, creating an electric field that is oriented in the opposite direction between the two terminals. As current runs through the capacitor it generates an electric charge that is stored as an electric field between the two terminals. This electric field is proportional to the quantity of charge stored in the capacitor. The capacitor is then able to act as an electronic filter by blocking higher frequencies while allowing lower frequencies or a DC current to pass through.
