The MC74ACT540MEL is designed so that two or more packages can be connected together to form a larger data bus.The MC74ACT540MEL uses a symmetrical Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) logic family. The device uses two logic levels, low-voltage logic (LVTTL) and low-power logic (LPL), to create a logic level translation between a bus and the MC74ACT540MEL. This allows devices with either LVTTL or LPL logic levels to communicate with each other on the same bus.In addition, the MC74ACT540MEL also features open-drain outputs, which make it an ideal choice for bidirectional control signals. When the output is in the high state, the device will output an open-drain voltage output with no current drain, allowing the control signal to be "pulled low" by an external pull-down resistor.
