Mica and PTFE Capacitors

A mica and PTFE capacitor is a type of electrical device widely used in high-voltage power transmission systems. In a typical two-terminal device, electrical conductivity is improved through the insertion of thin layers of mica and PTFE dielectric material between two conductors. As the material acts as a barrier to electric fields, it increases the capacitance of the device. This makes the capacitor useful for a variety of power transmission applications. The MCM01-010EF820J-F capacitor is a mica and PTFE high-voltage capacitor suited for applications up to 300A, 10kV. It is suited for AC and/or DC operation. The metalized mica forms the dielectric between the two conductors, and the PTFE layer forms the barrier. When a voltage is applied across the plate, an electric field is set up between them. The advantage of this type of capacitor is that it is capable of supplying high currents rapidly by storing excess power from the power source and then releasing it during peak load conditions.
