MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S is a monochrome LCD (liquid crystal display) module developed by Meloptics Corporation, Japan, that is suitable for displaying characters, as well as numeric data. This type of LCD module is classified under the ‘Display Modules - LCD, OLED Character and Numeric’ field. The LCD module has several applications, depending on the usage such as medical, automotive and industrial. In addition, the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module is especially beneficial for applications that require high visibility and long-term reliability. Its average operation time continues up to 60000 hours making it suitable for usage in hazardous situations.The MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module is provided with a 5x7 dot matrix display and has a total of 16 characters (4 rows x 4 columns), with a character height range of 7.4mm. This module is constructed using halogen-free, environment-friendly materials and the power supplied to it is 3 V DC. Moreover, it works on the TN (twisted Nematic) LCD drive mode using low power consumption technology. For data control, the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module uses either serial port data or 8-bit parallel data. Additionally, the module has an average current drain of 0.012 mA, which is very low.When it comes to practical usage and understanding the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module’s working principle, it\'s important to understand the concept of an electric field in a liquid crystal. Liquid crystals, used inside this module, are composed of rod-shaped molecules that orient themselves in the presence of an electric field. The twist or untwist of the molecules causes white light to either pass through or get blocked at the display’s surface, for each character segment on the display. This, in turn, forms the characters that are visible to the users.To understand the working of the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module more clearly, let us consider a 4-character OLED display where each character will consist of 7 segments. Each of these seven segments will be controlled by corresponding COM lines and one of the 7 lines for each segment. Logic 0 level (low level) will be applied for logic-level input values. If a logic 0 is applied through the corresponding 7 lines, the corresponding LED segments will turn off, resulting in the corresponding character not visible at the display. On the other hand, logic 1 will turn the LED segments on and make the corresponding character visible at the display.In addition, the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module is provided with a display intensity adjustment facility. This adjustment can range from light to dark and is accomplished using pulse width modulation (PWM). In this way, the display intensity can be set to optimize the display for different light conditions.Also, the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module has features such as built-in bias circuit and equipment that can be ensured with a readable operation even with hard-to-read LCDs. These features greatly improve the readability of the display and make the module better suited for its intended application.In terms of temperature specification, the MDLS-20464-SS-LV-S LCD module is able to operate over a temperature range of -20℃ to +70℃.
