D-Sub Cables
D-sub cables are widely used in various types of devices, such as computers, for connecting different parts inside or outside of the system. These cables are available in various styles depending on the type of connection they are making. The most common type of d-sub cable is the MDM-9PH008K-A174. It is a category 5e (CAT5e) plenum-rated twisted pair network cable.
Application Field
MDM-9PH008K-A174 is suited for use in areas where it is important to protect against Ethernet cables from creating a fire risk. Typically this type of cable is suitable for use in plenum spaces – the area of an office building or home where the air is circulated for heating and cooling, usually under the floor or in the ceiling. This type of cable may also be suitable for installation in walls, ceilings, raceways, and other areas prone to fire.
MDM-9PH008K-A174 is recommended for use in Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T) networks, although it is backwards compatible with 10Base-T and 100Base-TX networks. Its plenum rating makes it the ideal cable for taking signal long distances, in high traffic areas and running many devices in parallel.
Working Principle
Most CAT5e cables are constructed from a series of four pairs of insulated wires, twisted together in pairs and enclosed by a PVC jacket. This is known as a UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) cable. MDM-9PH008K-A174 is a UTP cable with added insulation around the outer jacket, for added fire safety. The plenum-rating means it is also filled with fire-retardant material to further reduce the risk of fire hazard in enclosed spaces.
Twisted pair cables work by using the four individual wire pairs to carry the signal over two lines at the same time. The signal is transmitted in both directions on each of the two lines, and the two lines are then used to cancel out any electromagnetic interference (EMI) that would otherwise interfere with the signal.
The internal construction of CAT5e cables is designed for greater shielding, and better noise immunity. The individual wires are wrapped in their own plastic insulation that does not need to be twisted. The design also decreases the chance of signal loss due to crosstalk, which is noise caused by one signal interfering with another.
MDM-9PH008K-A174 is a UTP CAT5e cable that is plenum-rated for use in areas with the potential for fire risk. Its construction and design makes it suitable for use in Gigabit Ethernet and other 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX networks. It is also resistant to crosstalk and other EMI interference, and it is able to transmit data over long distances without signal loss. It is the perfect cable for running multiple devices and for use in sensitive areas.
