It is a hermetically-sealed, -40°C to +85°C temperature-range-compliant integrated package containing all the necessary components for RF mixing. This includes a digital signal processor, a low-noise amplifier, a low-distortion voltage-controlled oscillator, a programmable gain amplifier, a four-pole image reject filter, a capacitor array, and a differential IF input.
The performance of the MDS-189-PIN has been tested and verified in accordance with the applicable industry standards, including transmitter spurious emissions, phase noise, spurious rejection, and input return loss. The core of the chip set, the DSP, provides the needed flexibility of programs to optimize the complex process of upconversion and provides the support of dual-band usage as well as direct-conversion. Its performance is compliant with the ENOB (effective number of bits) performance up to 17.7 bits.
The programmable gain amplifier provides a broad gain range with a high linearity suitable for direct-conversion. The low-noise amplifier improves both the noise figure and the signal-to-noise ratio. The voltage-controlled oscillator has very low phase noise and provides a wide tuning range to easily accommodate frequency synthesis.
The integrated 4-pole image reject filter efficiently removes any unwanted harmonics or images caused by the upconversion process, while the capacitor array provides the necessary gain and adjustment to the RF signal. The differential IF input additionally reduces interference by differentially amplifying the signal instead of amplifying it in a single-ended mode.
