PTC Resettable Fuses are widely used in various types of current breaking and protection applications. The MF-LR450 is a polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuse designed for higher-current applications. It offers superior performance compared to traditional methods of protection by providing quick response, wide operating temperature range, and low resistance.

The MF-LR450 consists primarily of a metal oxide polymer film that is encased in a casing, with a thermistor being embedded to act as a thermal monitor. The thermistor is connected to a thin film resistor, which acts as an impedance. When the current in the circuit exceeds the rating of the device, the temperature begins to rise, causing the thermistor to detect the temperature and in turn, limiting the current by providing a higher impedance to the circuit.

In order to protect the device from redundant trips and allow for a self-reset, a heat dissipating mechanism is embedded in the casing, allowing it to cool down after an overcurrent event has passed. Once the temperature has returned to an acceptable level, the device resets and current can once again continue to flow.

The MF-LR450 is a high performing and cost-efficient alternative to traditional protection methods, offering many benefits such as high current ratings, wide temperature ranges, low resistance and small board footprints.
