MF-LR550 PTC Resettable Fuse is a series of Polymeric PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Resettable Fuse. These Resettable Fuses are designed to protect current sensitive components from an overload and short circuit condition. This type of fuse works by providing a latching feature to the circuit. The fuse will trip only once and will latch the fault during overload or short circuit and must be reset manually to resume normal operation of the circuit.Application FieldThe MF-LR550 series of PTC Resettable Fuses is used in a wide range of application fields. They are mainly used as basic components in consumer electronics, communications, power supply, security, audio-video and charging equipment, automotive devices, space, military, medical and other high-end industries. In consumer electronic applications, the MF-LR550 series provides important current and voltage protection. It is the best protection when replacing fusible resistors and electrolytic capacitors, especially for overcharging, overcurrent, lightning, inrush current, and other unpredictable electrical and thermal events.Power supplies, security devices, and audio-video equipment benefit from resettable fuses because of their high speed and fail-safe accuracy. These components allow for controlled shutdowns, bypass mode operation, and alarm sounds which are key features of many power supply, security, and audio-video products. In automotive applications, the MF-LR550 series of PTC Resettable Fuse is used for circuit protection in automotive devices such as audio systems, airbag systems, and fuel injection systems. The cost of replacing a fusible resistor or electrolytic capacitor with an MF-LR550 can be significant. For space, military, medical and other high-end applications, accuracy and reliability are essential for protection against lightning, power surges, and EMI interference. The MF-LR550 series provides the highest level of protection when fully satisfying military standards and medical equipment certification requirements.Working PrincipleThe MF-LR550 series of PTC Resettable Fuses works by providing a latching feature to the circuit. This latching feature is designed to trip only once in the event of an overload or short circuit. Whenever an overload or short circuit occurs, the PTC Resettable Fuse will trip and draw an excessive amount of current, causing the wire element to heat up and open up the circuit. The wire element is then reset manually and cools off, and this restores the circuit operation back to its original state. In an overloaded circuit, the fuse will trip and disconnect the power circuit, preventing further damage to the equipment or component. In a short circuit, the fuse will trip and form a protective barrier against the high currents that can cause significant damage to the components and equipment. The resettable nature of the PTC Resettable Fuse also ensures that the circuit protection is provided without the need to replace any components.ConclusionThe MF-LR550 series of PTC Resettable Fuse is ideal for use in a wide range of applications, providing circuit protection in consumer electronics, power supplies, automotive devices, security devices, and other high-end applications. It is designed to trip only once in the event of an overload or short circuit. In an overloaded circuit, the fuse will trip and disconnect the power circuit, preventing further damage to the equipment or component. In a short circuit, the fuse will trip and form a protective barrier against the high currents. The fuse is also resettable, allowing for easy replacement.
