PTC Resettable Fuses
PTC resettable fuses, also known as polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) fuses, protective devices or simply resettable fuses, have emerged in many different fields such as consumer electrical products, industrial control systems and data communication equipment. They are typically used in devices where failure and over current protection are both necessary.
A PTC resettable fuse is made of specially designed plastics materials with temperature sensitive and current limiting characteristics. This means that when a certain temperature and/or current is exceeded, the fuse will open and stop the current, and the resistor will remain open until the temperature/current returns to a safe point at which time the resistor will automatically reset and continue to provide protection. The most common type of PTC resettable fuse is MF-MSMF075-2.
MF-MSMF075-2 Application Field and Working Principle
The MF-MSMF075-2 PTC Resettable Fuse is designed for applications in various electrical and electronic equipment. One of its main applications is in AC/DC or DC/DC converters, and other equipment with external signals, to provide overvoltage, overcurrent, and temperature protection.
The MF-MSMF075-2 works by using the principle of negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors. When the current flowing through the device exceeds its specified limit, it heats up and its resistance increases, thus limiting the current flow and protecting the device from overloads or shorts. When the temperature decreases, the resistance returns to its normal low value and the device is reset.
The main advantage of this type of PTC resettable fuse is its ability to self-reset, eliminating the need for manual resetting, or replacing of fuses. This also means that, since the fuse has a low resistance when it is reset, minimal power losses occur, which in turn increases the efficiency of the system. The other advantage of this type of fuse is that it provides an additional layer of protection against electrical faults and overcurrents, since the resistance increases automatically when an overload or short circuit is detected.
In conclusion, the MF-MSMF075-2 PTC Resettable Fuse is an indispensable device in many different electronic devices, providing safety and reliability while allowing for increased efficiency and cost savings.
