PTC Resettable Fuses, such as the MF-PSML175-2, are increasingly common in a wide variety of applications.

The MF-PSML175-2 Resettable Fuse is designed for 3-Phase 230VAC applications. It has a current rating of 175A and a non-zener voltage of 385VAC. It is fast acting, with an IR drop of just 12mV. The working principle of the MF-PSML175-2 is based on the use of Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) technology. PPTC materials are designed to increase in electrical resistance when subjected to current exceeding the rated current of the device. This increase in resistance switches the device off, and the current is interrupted, thus protecting it from too much power. When the current reduces, the PPTC material will cool and the electrical resistance will return to its nominal value, allowing the power to flow again.
