PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Resettable Fuses are important components in the power and product protection landscape. In particular, MF-R250-2-99 fuses provide an extra layer of protection from over-current and over-voltage faults for applications such as home entertainment systems, office and telecom equipment, or industrial electric motors.
The MF-R250-2-99 is a polymeric PTC resettable fuse, designed for applications requiring protection from over-current and over-voltage faults up to 250V AC. It features a high response speed of approximately 4 milliseconds at 25°C (77°F) and a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F). The fuse has a maximum continuous current of 2A and operates up to a peak current of 3A.
The MF-R250-2-99 offers superior protection from over-current and over-voltage faults without overtemperature conditions. The fuse trips at an over-current of 4.3A and will reset when the current drops below 0.2A. It will also trip when it is subjected to a voltage surge over 250V. The MF-R250-2-99 is available in lead-free (RoHS-compliant) and halogen-free (UL 94V-0) versions.
The working principle of the MF-R250-2-99 is based on the temperature-dependent resistive element inside. This element is a low temperature thermistor that has two opposing temperature coefficients of resistance which makes the device self-restoring upon temperature change. When no current is passing through the fuse, it adopts a “low resistance” state. When an over-current or over-voltage condition occurs, the resistive element heats up and its resistance increases, limiting the flow of current. When the current drops back to normal levels, the fuse resets and returns to its “low resistance” state.
The MF-R250-2-99 fuse can be used in a variety of applications, ranging from industrial electric motors and telecom equipment to consumer products such as home entertainment systems. Its fast response time and wide temperature range make it ideal for applications that require additional protection from over-current and over-voltage faults. The fuse can also be used in circuits that require a maximum continuous current up to 2A and a peak current of up to 3A.
