PTC resettable fuses are one of the categories of electrical protection devices. They are type of current limiting inrush tolerant fuses used to protect electronics from overcurrent and current surges. MF-R800-2 is a new type of PTC resettable fuse specifically designed for low current protection for consumer electronics. It has a variety of application fields due to its new working principle of limiting the surge current and forming a low resistance path when the current rises and then cut off the circuit.

For applications in consumer electronics, such as audio-visual equipment, dry batteries, notebook chargers, USB and car chargers, MF-R800-2 PTC resettable fuses offer excellent protection against short-circuit current and overcurrent. It has very low operating and holding currents, ensuring that the device can protect the circuit even for low current protection applications. It stands out because of its quick response time and there’s no need to open the system, reducing downtime and costs significantly.

The working principle of the PTC (positive temperature coefficient) resettable fuse is to limit the surge current entering the device and form a low resistance path when the current rises. When the current overcomes the rated current of the fuse, the temperature of the fuse element will rise considerably. This increase in temperature causes its impedance to increase, reducing the current flowing through it. This continues until the temperature and the current drop to a safe level, at which point the fuse is reset and the circuit reconnects. In this way, it can provide continuous protection for against short-circuit and overcurrent faults.

In addition, the MF-R800-2 also has an over-temperature protection feature to prevent excessive temperature rising during continuous current flow. The temperature is monitored continuously with a temperature sensor placed close to the fuse. If the temperature rises above a specified temperature, the fuse will be shut off automatically in order to prevent potential damage to the surrounding equipment.

The MF-R800-2 PTC resettable fuse is a great protection solution for consumer electronics, offering quick response time and resettability. Its operating and holding currents are low, reducing the device’s power consumption.
