PTC resettable fuses, also known as polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses, are designed to protect high current operating systems. MF-RHT500-2 is a kind of resettable fuses and this article will describe its application field and working principle.

Application Field

MF-RHT500-2 is applicable for end products that need over-current and over-temperature protection. Working Principle

The MF-RHT500 series are using thermal-sensitive polymer PTC as the main component. Comparing to traditional thermistor, the main difference is that it has the self-restoration properties, which means the PTC resettable fuse can reactivate automatically after the over current or over temperature occur and back to its original condition again.The conductor of the fuse is made from a metal core layer or a spiral metal core pipe coated with a PTC material. Once the over current or over temperature occur, the PTC material can increase its resistance greatly.So, once a short-circuit or an over-temperature activated it, the resistance rises gradually until the over-current is interrupted. The fuse would reset itself when the current declines to a safe level. Therefore, this product is environmental and economic.
