PTC Resettable Fuses are an important group of fuses used to limit electrical currents and protect circuits from receiving large amounts of power. The MF-USML380-2 is one example of this type of product.
The MF-USML380-2 is a low voltage, lead-free, resettable fuse. It is widely used in the automotive, consumer electronic and medical industries, typically in equipment such as charge adapters, power and data cables, home appliances and medical devices. This device is designed to open a circuit if a pre-determined over-current activity is sensed and correctly reset when the current is reduced. It features a rugged, thermally conductive housing, superior current-interruption performance and low hold-state resistance. It is UL recognized and RoHS compliant.
The working principle of the MF-USML380-2 is based on a special form of over-current protection called Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuse. This fuse employs a heat-sensitive, polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) element. When the current through the element is above the rated current, the temperature of the element increases. This increase in temperature causes the element to reach its transition point and the element will change from a low-resistance to a high-resistance state. The device will remain in a high-resistance state, thereby interrupting the circuit until the current is reduced to a safe level. When the current is reduced, the element will return to its low-resistance state, thus restoring power to the circuit.
The MF-USML380-2 PPTC resettable fuse is available in an operating current range from 0.3A to 15A. As current increases, the resistance also increases proportionally. The PPTC resin is housed in a thermally conductive package, either in a traditional round canister or a SMT package, to ensure effective heat dissipation. Additionally, the device is UL94V-0 compliant and its rated voltage is up to 280Vac/220Vdc.
The MF-USML380-2 is ideal for applications where it is important to protect against over-current conditions and avoid interruptions. For instance, it can be used to protect computer motherboards, hard drives, printers and other sensitive components that require constant current supply. It can also be used in power supplies and portable applications such as USB ports and AC adapters. It is cost-effective, reliable, and provides fast response time, making it an ideal solution for any high-power circuit protection.
The MF-USML380-2 is a reliable and cost-effective way to protect high-power circuits from over-current conditions. It utilizes the PPTC element, which is capable of quickly reacting to high levels of current and resetting when the current is reduced. Its thermally conductive housing feature allows effective heat dissipation, and its wide range of features and ratings make it suitable for a variety of applications in the automotive, consumer electronic and medical industries.
