DC/DC ConvertersDC/DC converters are electronic circuits or devices which change direct current from one voltage level to another. The output voltage of a DC/DC converter can be lower or higher than the input voltage. This is done using a number of means like charge pumps, linear regulators, boost converters, switching regulators or pulse-width-modulators (PWM).The DC/DC Converter MI-274-MX-F2 is a low-power DC/DC converter module designed specifically for use in applications such as data acquisition systems, metering systems, communication systems and other applications where a low voltage level (up to 15 Volts DC) is required.The MI-274-MX-F2 is equipped with an integrated DC/DC converter that can convert input voltages from 2.5V – 15V DC to an output voltage of up to 15V DC. The output current of this converter is 10A with a maximum power of 150W. The module is easy to install and use with built-in EMI filters for lower output ripple voltage.Working PrincipleThe MI-274-MX-F2 module works on the principles of Buck Boost (step-up/step-down) regulation. This topology is mainly used to generate a constant output voltage from any input voltage in the given voltage range. The Buck Boost converter consists of an input switch and an output switch and has two separate inductors and two separate capacitors to store and release energy. The input switch is opened and closed in a controlled manner allowing current to flow and build up a magnetic field in both inductors. The two capacitors are then used to store and release energy as the input switch is opened and closed. In the output stage, the output switch regulates the output voltage to the desired setpoint.The MI-274-MX-F2 has an easily adjustable input voltage range allowing for higher output currents and higher voltages. The regulation of the output voltage is achieved by the combination of two control loops, the voltage loop and the current loop. The voltage loop works by regulating the transfer ratio of the output switch which is represented by its duty cycle. The current loop, on the other hand, regulates the peak current of the output switch. This regulation is achieved by monitoring the inductor current and limiting it when it starts to exceed a predetermined value.The DC/DC Converter MI-274-MX-F2 is a high-performance, low-power DC/DC converter module designed for use in a variety of applications including data acquisition systems, metering systems, communication systems, and other low voltage level applications up to 15V DC. The module is equipped with an integrated DC/DC converter that can convert an input voltage of 2.5V – 15V DC to an output voltage of up to 15V DC. It works on the principles of Buck Boost regulation and is easily adjustable, allowing for higher output currents and higher voltages.
