DC DC Converters
A DC-DC converter is an electrical device that will take either a high- or low-voltage DC input and convert it to the desired output voltage. The MI-J6T-IA is a 40 W DC-DC converter designed for both wide input voltage range (18-75V) and extreme temperature applications (-40 ˚C to +100 ˚C). The MI-J6T-IA is especially well suited for high-reliability and rugged applications such as military, telecom, and rail transit. It meets the requirements of the European and North American railway system EN 50155 and NFPA 130.
The MI-J6T-IA is a rugged DC-DC switching converter that features both high efficiency and a very small size. Its wide input voltage range (18-75V) makes it well suited for railway applications. It also has a wide operating temperature range (-40 ˚C to +100 ˚C) and is RoHS-compliant, making it appropriate for energy-saving applications. The MI-J6T-IA also features exceptionally stable and reliable output voltage regulation.
The MI-J6T-IA employs a full-bridge LLC topology, where the bridge is fed with an unregulated input voltage that is rectified and converted into a DC voltage. This converted DC voltage is then switched onto the primary side of the transformer at the frequency of switching in order to produce an AC voltage suitable for the primary side of the transformer. On the secondary side, the transformer is connected to a rectifier to convert the AC voltage into a regulated DC voltage.
The converter is protected by under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-voltage lockout (OVLO), over-current (OCP), and thermal protection (OTP). Additional design features include high-efficiency operation, low output voltage ripple, over-temperature operation, and ultra-low standby power consumption. The converter is also equipped with a special isolated control circuit and a protection circuit to prevent accidental short circuits.
In addition, the MI-J6T-IA employs a comprehensive suite of power saving and efficiency enhancing features, including switching frequency regulation, selectable operating modes, and advanced half-bridge control features.
