The MIC2206-9IYML-TR is a high-accuracy, low-noise, high-current, wide-output-voltage-range, low-threshold, integrated low-voltage linear and switching voltage regulator system. It integrates two low-voltage regulators, one linear (LVR) and one pulse-width-modulated (PWM) regulator. The system is designed to support up to 30V input and output temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C. The voltage regulation isolates the output from the input, providing extremely clean and low-noise output power. With the integrated comparator and bandgap reference, the MIC2206-9IYML-TR also features fast step-up/down voltage protection, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), open-loop protection, over-current protection (OCP), and over-temperature protection (OTP).
The MIC2206-9IYML-TR is applicable for any type of applications that require very small form factor, low noise, high efficiency, wide operating temperature ranges, and/or tight regulation process. It is ideal for powering digital logic, motor control, embedded systems, and power sensitive applications. Its many features such as low voltage input, wide operating temperature range, and quick transient response also make it suitable for medical, automotive, communications, industrial and consumer applications.
The working principle of the MIC2206-9IYML-TR is based on a linear and switch-mode voltage regulator. The LVR regulates the output voltage to a set level while the PWM regulator regulates the output current to a set level. The system is designed to ensure maximum efficiency, quickly responding to changing loads, and complying with all output voltage/current regulations. The output voltage is determined by the output voltage selector, and the output current is determined by the current sense resistor.
The MIC2206-9IYML-TR switches universally between linear and PWM modes according to the workload, based on the voltage feedback. The voltage regulation loop is then used to track and regulate the output voltage to a desired set level. In linear mode, the system uses a high-impedance, low-noise amplifier to regulate the output voltage and achieve very high accuracy, while in PWM mode, a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) switching is used to track and regulate the output current to a set level.
The integrated Voltage Supervisor (VS) circuit works as a voltage supervisor that monitors the input voltage and sets the input voltage threshold level for the under/over-voltage protection (UVLO/OVLO) circuit. The OVLO circuit guards against excessive output current and overload condition, while the UVLO circuit prevents over-voltage damage by preventing the device from operating when the output voltage is out of the acceptable range. The integrated temperature monitor (TMP) circuit monitors the internal die temperature and sets the upper threshold level (OTP) to protect the device from an over-temperature condition.
The MIC2206-9IYML-TR is a high-accuracy, low-noise, high-current, wide-output-voltage-range, low-threshold, integrated low-voltage linear and switching voltage regulator system that provides excellent performance supplies with clean and reliable output power.
