LED drivers, also known as LED power supplies, are integral components of LED systems. LED drivers, or LED power supplies, convert a power source\'s voltage to the correct amount for an LED system. The MIC3203-1YM-TR is a 1.2A constant current LED driver utilizing a monolithic boost converter and MOSFET topology. The MIC3203-1YM-TR provides a high efficiency, low cost, solution for driving high brightness LEDs from a single lithium-ion battery, making it the ideal choice for handheld applications such as flashlights, toys, and digital cameras.
The MIC3203-1YM-TR is a highly integrated, Constant Boost (Linear) Output Current regulator. It combines a high performance step-up DC-DC converter, MOSFET driver, short-circuit protection circuit and over-voltage protection circuit in one solution. The MIC3203-1YM-TR is specifically designed to drive LEDs efficiently and safely, using a simple external, current-limiting resistor. The device utilizes a boost regulator topology to drive up to 1.2A of current to the LEDs, while operating in the most efficient manner. The MIC3203-1YM-TR also includes an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit to protect against battery exhaustion, and an over-voltage protection (OVP) circuit to prevent damage to the LEDs caused by excessive voltage.
The MIC3203-1YM-TR has a wide input voltage range of 2.8~6V, designed for Li-Ion, alkaline, or NiMH battery applications. It features an adjustable output current from 500mA to 1.2A, allowing the user to select the optimum current for their LED applications. Additionally, the MIC3203-1YM-TR has a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, allowing for use in extreme temperatures.
The MIC3203-1YM-TR’s working principle is based on an high-performance monolithic integrated boost circuit. The boost converter includes an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit that prevents operation when the input voltage is too low, a dedicated current-sense resistor (CSR) circuit limiting the output current to the set value, a feedback voltage network controlling waveform shape and output voltage, an over-temperature (OTP) protection circuit, an over-voltage (OVP) protection circuit and an external MOSFET to drive the LEDs. The MIC3203-1YM-TR can remain in its shutdown state until the voltage applied to its IN+ and IN- pins exceeds its UVLO level. When that happens, the output current rises from zero to the set value. The output voltage also rises from its zero value to the desired level determined by the voltage divider network.
