The MIC38C42BMM is a high-efficiency, monolithic, synchronous, 2-phase, interleaved DC-DC step-down converter with integrated FETs, available in a 10-pin Lead-free DFN package. It operates from an input voltage range of 4.5V to 14V and provides output currents up to 6A. The MIC38C42BMM is designed to serve as a power regulation solution in space- and power-constrained, cost-sensitive applications including LMPS, ultra-book and tablet PCs, telecom/datacom appliances, and all type of consumer industrial and automotive applications.
The chip is designed to regulate the output voltage at a reference specified by the user with ±2% accuracy. Cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection can be programmed to trip at the desired current limit level, which is proportional to the negative current sense voltage applied in CS-pin. It also features an adjustable or fixed soft-start during start-up, an adjustable or fixed frequency compromise between efficiency and EMI level. An enable pin is featured to put the converter into a low power operating mode.
The MIC38C42BMM comes with configurable Type I and Type II Advanced Sequencing and Multi-Phase operation with forced interleaving. This feature greatly improves both light load efficiency and EMI/RFI performance. There is also adjustable/fixed 1A loop compensation as well as an additional bypass capacitor for TL431 stable output voltage.
The MIC38C42BMM also comes with an adjustable current limit and frequency foldback protection, which lowers the switching frequency proportionally with decreasing output load for improved efficiency under light loads. In addition, the switching frequency 0 to 650 kHz and operating temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C.The device includes many safety features such as Current Mode Control, programmable soft-start, Under Voltage Lock Out(UVLO), Over Voltage Protection(OVP),Thermal Shutdown(TSD) and Overload Protection (OLP).
