Working principle

Film capacitors operate by storing an electric charge in the form of an electric field between two metal plates. This field is formed when a voltage is applied across one of the plates, which creates an electric current. This current travels through the dielectric material between the two plates, creating a charge which builds up as the voltage increases. When the voltage reaches a certain level, the capacitor is said to be “fully charged”. Once the capacitor is fully charged, the charge is held until either the capacitor is discharged or the voltage drops, at which point the charge on the capacitor is said to have “discharged”.

Film capacitors are able to handle relatively high temperatures as well as high frequencies, making them ideal for a wide range of applications. They also have relatively low leakage currents, making them well-suited to noise suppression and signal filtering applications. The most significant disadvantage of film capacitors is their relatively high cost.
