Film capacitors, also known as plastic film-laminated capacitors, are composed of plastic film and electrodes on both sides. The electrodes are metalized with a thin aluminum and zinc alloy layer, and the internal core material is polyester, polypropylene or Teflon single layer or multilayer film. Working Principle

The basic working principle of film capacitor is the same as other ordinary capacitors. It works the same as other capacitors, which can charge and discharge electricity. When alternating current is applied to both ends of this capacitor, current will flow from one side to the other, which is actually a continuous charging and discharging process. The current passing through this kind of capacitor would cause electric energy to be stored in the electric field of the dielectric, which is actually the process of capacitor charging.

When capacitance is subject to a certain percentage of DC current, this charging-discharging process would add up the electric charge on the two plates of the capacitor while subtracting the electric charge on the other plate. Thus, the electric current passing through would reduce until all the current is stored in the electric field of the dielectric between the two conductor plates. When the current dissipates, the capacitor would tend to store again. This charging-discharging process would keep repeating in an AC system.
