Introduction

MKT1813268106R is an axial-lead film capacitor. It is of a metallized polypropylene construction with axial radial leads. It is characterized by very low losses and high ripple current capability. It is suitable for high frequency SMPS, energy storage of TV receiver and lighting systems and coupling applications, etc.

Application Fields

MKT1813268106R features a wide capacitance range and plenty of alternates, so it can suit a wide range of applications. It is widely applied in those high frequency regular power supplies, switch power supply, UPS, and energy storage of TV receivers, lighting systems, switching mode lighting ballast, LCD, and LED, etc. Furthermore, MKT1813268106R can be also used in some coupling applications in which the capacitor is used to transmit the AC signals while blocking the DC components.

Working Principle

The MKT1813268106R capacitors employ metalized paper dielectric for high current stress and withstand voltage applications. The internal electrode design of this capacitor is that copper coating is pressed onto the paper dielectric foil. Also, one side of electrode forms zipper structure which increases the creepage capacitance and enhances the high frequency performance. This type of capacitor works on the principle of the dielectric absorbance where the dielectric varies according to the applied voltage.

The dielectric used to construct the MKT1813268106R capacitor consists of two metalized layers of a Polypropylene film. Each layer of the film is coated with a metal which is generally aluminum. In addition to the polypropylene dielectric material, the core of this capacitor is enclosed by non-conductive plastic which offers mechanical strength and environmental protection.

When voltage is applied, the capacitance of the film capacitor varies with the voltage applied. There are two parameters that affect the capacitance, namely, the dielectric coefficient and the thickness of the dielectric. The higher the dielectric coefficient and the thicker the dielectric, the higher the capacitance. Thus, this capacitor theoretically has a high voltage breakdown capability and excellent high frequency characteristics.
