Film capacitors are widely used in electronics today.

As a kind of capacitor, film capacitors are built up with dielectric films that are usually placed between two metal plates or two sheets of foil. A dielectric film is typically a type of plastic, such as polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is inserted between these two conductive plates. When an electric field is applied to the dielectric film, an electric charge can be stored on it. This charge can then be discharged when the field is removed.

One type of film capacitor is the MKT1817347014W, a single layer metallized polyester film capacitor. This capacitor consists of a single-sided metallized polyester film and two aluminum printed electrodes.
