The MLX90371GGO-BCC-100-RE is a small, non-contact, high-performance, low-power, magneto-resistive linear angle transducer, which measures linear position as well as angle over a full scale range of 90° (for example if the range is 0-500 mm, then the corresponding angle is 0-90°, for example for a range between 0-1000 mm from 0-0.36Radian). This MLX90371GGO-BCC-100-RE has three parts, namely the main IC (integrated circuit) MLX90371, a transfer circuit without external components, and a separate interface device for real time sampling of angle and linear data. The sensor has a typical linearity error of 0.1% full scale and resolution of 14 bit, making it quite accurate for measuring small changes in angular position and linear travel.The working principle of this device involves the use of a 3-axis magneto-resistive bridge. The bridge is positioned so that the output for one axis is proportional to the angle of the axis with respect to the magnetic field. The other two bridge legs provide outputs proportional to the linear travel along the x- and y-axes. The outputs from these three bridge legs are combined via special processing algorithms to produce angle and linear position measurements.

The feedback is received through the conversion of the magnetic flux into an electrical current from the three bridge elements. These currents are then converted into a voltage. This voltage is then processed and sent to the microcontroller within the application, which interprets the magnitude of voltage to compute the exact angle and linear position measurements.All the data is collected internally by the microcontroller and sent out from the IC via a serial connection in either the SPI or I2C protocol.
