MMD25-005 Application Field and Working PrincipleThe MMD25-005 is a specialized backplane connector designed for high-speed applications. It is one of the latest connectors in an ever-growing family of products from the Ethernet Alliance. This particular type of connector is used mainly in ConteXt Switching networks (CXN) as it provides superior performance compared to traditional copper and fiber backplane topologies.The MMD25-005 is designed to provide a high degree of electrical isolation between the connected media and the device that is utilizing it. This isolation ensures that there is no cross-contamination between operating components. In addition, the emergence of high-speed Ethernet networks makes two-level isolation a must. The MMD25-005 ensures that the highest level of fault tolerance is afforded to the application.The MMD25-005 consists of three parts: the main body, the contact pins and the interfacing equipment. The main body of the connector is typically made of a dielectric material such as polyethylene, allowing for a good degree of electrical isolation between the contact pins and the receiving device. The contact pins are generally made from materials such as gold or palladium and are inserted into the main body. The most common type of technique employed is that of mechanical contact, whereby the contact pins are inserted into apertures located in the interfacing equipment. This ensures the resistor within the connection is maintained.The second type of technique is known as pneumatic contact, whereby the contact pins are sealed within the interfacing equipment, allowing for a gas-tight seal. This pneumatic sealing ensures that a consistently low level of pressure is maintained between the contact pin tips and the receptacle. This low pressure prevents the connection from being affected by environmental factors.The third type of technique employed is non-linear contact, involving a frequency-dependent performance characteristic. In this type of system, the contact pins are equipped with a range of spring pressures, allowing them to be configured to the specific requirements of the application. This ensures that the contact pins are adjusted depending on the type of frequency being used.The MMD25-005 is commonly used in applications such as embedded system networking and high-speed Ethernet networks. Its ability to provide a reliable electrical connection between the media and the device, combined with the high degree of electrical isolation, make it an ideal choice for these types of applications.
