Strain gauges, also known as resistance strain gauges, measure the strain of an object, typically through a wire-like material called a metallic foil. MMF010905 is one such strain gauge, specifically designed for high-temperature applications between -200°C to +600°C. It is mainly used for measuring mechanical deformation in applications such as aircraft, automotive and aerospace components, pressure vessels, and industrial process control systems.MMF010905, specifically designed for high-temperature applications, has a conventional construction with a resistive element placed between two metal substrates. The resistance PCB foil is made of nickel-cobalt-chrome alloy with a very fine surface grill. The upper base of the metal substrate is coated with a special conductive epoxy, to form the seals of the mechanical straining.The working principle of the MMF010905 strain gauge is relatively simple. When an applied force (or strain) causes a shift in the shape of the resistive element, a change in electrical resistance is measured. This electrical resistance is then converted to a strain reading either via a strain indicator, a single board computer or more complex electronic equipment.Strain gauges do have some limitations. For large-scale applications, they may be impracticable due to weight and bulk, so special bridge or span configurations with multiple gauges are needed. There may be issues of thermal shock caused by rapid changes in temperature, leading to a reduced accuracy. Hysteresis, or the lag or inertia of a strain meter in response to changing loads, may also be an issue.To help overcome some of these limitations, the engineers at Meggitt developed the MMF010905 as a low-cost, high-temperature strain gauge specifically designed to be resistant to thermal shock as well as hysteresis. Its nickel-chromium-cobalt-alloy foil provides high temperature resistance and is effective up to 600°C. It also features a special epoxy bonding agent which allows a wider operational temperature range, making it suitable for a wide variety of industrial and personal applications.Finally, the MMF010905 is also optimized for strain gauging applications. The resistive element design allows a high degree of accuracy in strain readings, with a resolution of up to 0.2µstrain, while the grid pattern ensures an even detection of strain from different directions. This makes it suitable for both static and dynamic strain measurements and makes MMF010905 the ideal solution for high-temperature strain gauging applications.All in all, the MMF010905 is a versatile, durable and accurate strain gauge that can be used in a variety of high-temperature applications.
