MOV-14D390K can protect a circuit from transient overvoltages caused by events such as switching surges, lightning, and inductive loads. The working principle of MOV-14D390K is based on the inverse current-voltage relationship of a metal-oxide element. When the voltage applied to the MOV exceeds its rated dissipation voltage (V(DRM)), it will break down and the conduction mechanism will be activated. This will reduce the circuit voltage and limit the peak voltage to a safe level.

When the peak voltage exceeds the voltage of breakdown but remains low, the metal oxide element increases its effective resistance to the breakdown current, causing the voltage in the circuit to decrease.Once the surge voltage has passed, the voltage across the MOV will return to its normal level and the device will resume its protective function. The internal design of MOV-14D390K includes an extra thick metal oxide layer which provides excellent surge protection.
