MP173GS is a parameter-controlled DC switching power supply module developed by MEANWELL, with a minimum power of 16–24W and a minimum height of 6.30mm. It is a high performance, energy efficient product with a wide input voltage range of 90 -- 264VAC, single output of 12Volt at 1.5 -- 1.85Amp. In addition the MP173GS has an active PFC function and can meet the requirement of global energy efficiency regulations such as ErP, CoC, energy star 2.0, etc. This DC switching power supply has embedded active power factor correction circuitry, providing a more efficient conversion with less power dissipation over the traditional AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers.
MP173GS DC switching power supply is specifically designed for high power levels, reduce end user costs, widen operating temperature range and improve product reliability for a variety of applications. Its main feature is that it can withstand high voltage levels and short circuit protection; Other features includes output voltage and current programmability, high power supply efficiency, low standby power consumption, device-level dimming and current consumption. These functions can meet the requirements of many applications, such as LED drivers, solar energy products, industrial controllers, and CCTV systems with automatic overload protection.
MP173GS power supply adopts Synchronous Rectifier (SR) technology to obtain low power consumption. Its overall efficiency is up to 95%. Its soft start time is short, and the output ramp is fast and smooth, reducing the impact of capacitor inrush current. MP173GS power supply also has a wide range of working temperature, from -30 degree to +85 degree. Its EMI performance is low, less than 20mV at 5MHz, an industry leading EMI performance.
Another noteworthy feature of the MP173GS power supply module is its adjustable output voltage and current capability. The working principle of the MP173GS module is based on the concept of "Charge Pump+ Synchronous Rectification Technique". It actually converts the AC current into DC current by charging the internal capacitor of the module. When the input AC current reaches a certain level, the controller starts to perform PWM operation, and then charges the internal capacitor to a certain voltage and suddenly cut off the capacitor, so that, the internal capacitor can get an output voltage versus the input current through the rectifier, and finally output a fixed DC voltage. Comparing to the traditional Flyback Conversion, this SR technique has the advantages of high efficiency, low profile, wide input voltage range and higher power density.
