Backplane connectors are a special form of electrical connectors which serve to maintain electrical contacts between components within a system, or between different systems. The MP2-SS210-51S1-LR (MP2) is a type of backplane connector specifically designed to provide low profile, high density solutions for backpanel and backplane application in fields such as telecommunications, networking, data storage, industrial electronics, and audio/visual. The MP2 has an integrated locking mechanism which enables secure and reliable connection with zero lead time. Specifically, the MP2 is well adapted for use in computer racks, network storage systems, and utility communication systems.
The MP2 backplane connector is machined with 24 pins as contacts and 50 contacts per square inch. The pins are plated with gold or tin and the contact moving plate materials are made of brass or phosphor bronze with a number of operational cycles ranging from 250 to 1000. Furthermore, the connectors are induced with an electroless nickel plating, which provides superior uniformities for optimal contact transfer.
The MP2 provides the functions of impedance matching, low signal loss, and crosstalk reduction. It is capable of transferring different types of signals, such as USB, HDMI, FireWire, and SATA, ensuring transmission of data in high speed or long distance. To ensure reliable electrical interfaces, the MP2 has a much higher contact density than other standard connectors. It also decreases the number of printed circuit board layers that a system requires.
The working principle of the MP2 backplane connector’s is based on the concept of interlocking contacts. This means that the contacts are forced against each other when they are obliquely inserted into a slot in the receiving bay at a specific angle before the pins engage the mated contact. As the actuator is urged downward, the wall of the slot evenly pressurizes the contact edge which is then pushed and spread inward to open the contact slightly. This insures that all the contacts are uniformly pressed to make an electrical connection.
The MP2 backplane connector is designed to be used for high speed, high density data and signal applications within a broad range of devices and systems. It is suitable for integration into uninterrupted systems, providing a secure transmission of data from one location to another, or from peripheral to system board or vice versa.
