Working principle:

The MP2136EG-LF-P integrates a voltage loop, a MOSFET and a high side driver with a configurable switching frequency PWM buck regulator. The device provides a configurable output voltage of 1.2V to 5.2V in 100mV increments. The device is suitable for lower power and space saving applications.

The device consists of an Error Amplifier, Gate Drivers, MOSFET and Voltage Loop. The Error Amplifier senses the output voltage and compares it to an internal voltage reference. If there is a difference between the output and reference voltages, then the Error Amplifier adjusts the drive to the Gate Drivers which then provide appropriate gate drive to the integrated MOSFET.

When the MOSFET is switched on, current is passed through the windings of an inductor and then to the load. The current then increases and flows through the diode to be stored in the output capacitor. The size of the output capacitor is very important to prevent output voltage instability. Too large and the capacitor will cause an output over-voltage and too small will create an output under-voltage.

The device also includes two pins to program the switching frequency within the range of 350kHz to 1MHz as per the application requirements. The device also includes external compensation that allows to optimize efficiency across the load current range.
