MPQ2918GL-P Application Field and Working Principle

The MPQ2918GL-P is a fully integrated step-down DC-DC switching regulator. Offering high switching frequency and high current drive capability, it is suitable for power management solutions requiring a wide input voltage range, low output voltage ripple and excellent EMI performance.

The output voltage is adjusted via the built-in voltage reference, and the output current is monitored to protect the device from excessive load conditions. A soft start feature allows for slow and smooth output voltage ramp-up that minimizes start-up spikes.

Working Principle

The MPQ2918GL-P uses pulse-width modulation (PWM) to control the output voltage. It senses the voltage at the output and adjusts the duty cycle of the switch accordingly. The output voltage is then regulated to a predetermined setpoint.

The maximum switch current of the MPQ2918GL-P is limited by an integrated current sensing circuit. A low on-resistance internal switch provides a low RDS(on), resulting in high efficiency. The device will go into a safe operating area protection mode when the output voltage reaches 3.25V.
